As you are learning the story of your new friend, sharing your story, and then sharing God’s story, you are trying to understand if they are ready to both receive you as well as receive your message. We use a tool called Red Light, Yellow Light, Green Light to help us in making that determination. Watch the video below to learn more about how you can determine the best next steps forward.
At this stage in our preparation, we want to make two special points:
It is important to present a clear Gospel message so that you know which “light” this person is. For example, if you consider them a “Yellow Light” or a “Green Light”, but haven’t yet shared with them the Three Circles, you don’t yet have a way to determine what your next steps should be. You may be tempted to simply have a nice conversation without talking about your story of faith or God’s story and the Three Circles, but please don’t fall into this trap as this is a critical point in knowing what you should do next.
We have also seen situations where team members are continuing to try to connect with Red Light folks in an attempt to make them Yellow Lights or Green Lights. We encourage you to try to both be optimistic as well as realistic. Always start your conversation with optimism, but do you best with the help of prayer and discussion with the Holy Spirit to understand realistically where things stand so that you can always use your time in the best possible way.
